Episode 29 – James Stott: The Magic Marine

James Stott

As a native of York, England’s historic Viking capital, James lived a life driven by adventure and personal growth.

His journey began with 14 remarkable years in the military, serving as both a Royal Marines Commando and Special Forces medic, where he honed his discipline and learned the true meaning of resilience.

After hanging up his military boots, James took an unexpected turn and transformed into a professional magician. This new chapter saw him embracing the freedom of van life, traveling to perform and share the art of illusion with audiences across the country.

During this time, James also established himself as a property investor and private landlord.

James connection to the ocean began in 2012 when he caught his first wave, and surfing quickly became more than just a hobby. Understanding its therapeutic power—often referred to as “Blue Mind”—he now serves as a surf coach for military personnel and veterans, helping them find healing through the water.

Physical wellness has always been at his core. As a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor and Ironman triathlete, James continuously pushes his boundaries. This passion for holistic well-being led him to launch men’s retreats and become certified as an Oxygen Advantage breathwork instructor.

Today, James works as a personal trainer, combining his diverse experience to offer a comprehensive approach to health and wellness.

Between training sessions and property management, you might find him on his motorcycle, seeking out new adventures and adding more chapters to his unconventional story.

You may remember James from Britain’s Got Talent Competition, where he brought unflinching bravery to the stage with a performance that pushed the limits of danger and thrill.

James’ 3 mindset messages:
  1. The mind is more powerful than your DNA
  2. Life is a game
  3. There is a price for everything
Food

James wanted vibrant salad, made with rare tuna steak. Music to my ears!

I thought Japanese style tuna would be great here and to make it challenging for myself, I also decided to make it three ways.  This meant I had to do a lot of preparation and planning in advance, but as always I wanted to make my guest to feel extra special.

As always I added my own touches and extra ingredients, but you may find similar recipes below:

I was so pleased all my effort paid off, James enjoyed these dishes and left my home with a smile!
